Established in 1993, Mathabo Day Care Centre strives to create a safe space for the children of the community where they can be cared for and educated. Before the centre was started, many parents had to leave their children alone at home as they were absent all day working strenuous hours.
There was a call for a day care centre to be built for the community when these vulnerable children started playing on the street and numerous fell victims to rape. Having a strong belief in the promotion of the interests and well-beings of children, the centre was then constructed to be a place of protection and education.
Founder, Martha Sello, along with her five staff members, work consistently to develop and maintain an acceptable standard of care and education for the 76 children in their care. They work with the children, providing assistance with their basic skills development and make certain that each child has the opportunity to experience a rich upbringing. Children at the centre have access to food as well as a loving environment where they are welcomed with open arms.
Mathabo Day Care Centre is passionate about the health and safety of children and are constantly thinking of ways in which they can develop the centre so that children can fully benefit from it. The vision for the centre is to have enough funds to be able to build more classrooms, and be able to paint them, so that the children can have a sense of pride around their centre. They also wish to buy toys, mattresses and food in order to continue providing a space in which the children can develop freely.
