Creative Care Educare exists because founder Mandy Pieterse doesn’t believe in bad people; she believes in bad upbringings. The Educare has its beginnings in 2015 in Mandy and her son’s home, when she began to casually take care of the children of working mothers in the area. It was in these beginning stages that it became perfectly clear to her that a lot of Athlone’s problems could be eradicated in the foundational phase.

In short, she realized that by caring for and properly educating children from the ages of 1 to 5, she might be able to play a part in bettering their futures.

That’s what Mandy and her team are in the business of doing these days: changing futures. They’ve gone from Mandy’s first few casual daycare students to 27 of Athlone’s little ones, and in the meantime, Mandy has gotten herself qualified by completing her level 4 in Early Childhood Development at the College of Cape Town. She is joined by two other teachers, who are also similarly qualified, and the team is helped by Mandy’s mother (whose home is also on the premises).

It truly takes a village, and the village smiles through all of it.
They take a holistic approach to their students and focus on the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social aspects of each and every child. Communication and feeling-expression is key to healthy development, Mandy knows, and this shows in everything from story time to heart-to-heart conversations.

They feed their student’s breakfast and teach them numbers and singing and counting, but, more importantly, they teach them how to communicate, which is what sets this centre apart. The team sends them to school prepared, and send them into life even more so.

Mandy’s dream is to have a large proper building of her own in order to be able to accommodate the large number of Athlone children who are either not being cared for during the day or not being prepared for school properly.

The centre’s only income comes from a monthly fee from parents, which allows Mandy to pay her staff but not do much else. Additional assistance would enable Creative Care Educare to create a happier learning environment for the children in their care.
